Springwise and several other websites have reported on a project that creates 3d models from photographs to recreate moments in a persons life that they are no longer able to view due to loss of vision.
Springwise reports on an initiative of the Japanese government to enable citizens to print 3d maps from online sources to help blind people and those losing their sight to navigate their surroundings. The 3d maps include roads, railway lines and contours to give an accurate copy of the landscape. It is hoped that increased access and falling costs of 3d printers could allow many people to access the service.
