Spray-on solar cells for any surface

Inhabitat highlights the development of spray-on solar cells that can be applied to virtually any surface:

“Researchers at the University of Toronto have unveiled a cheap, fast spray-on solar cell process that could enable the creation of solar arrays using the most modest of manufacturing methods.”

The approach utilises newspaper printing techniques to place quantum dots onto plastic or film. The efficiency of the cells is currently around 8% but with the potential for significant cost savings over other solar technologies this may not be a problem.
