Method to clean tar sands waste water developed by young Canadian

Inhabitat reports on the discovery by 18 year old Canadian Hayley Todesco of a way to clean up some of the waste products of fossil fuel extraction from tar sands. Known as ‘tailings ponds’, Todesco has developed an approach to clean the water in the tailing ponds in decades compared to the usual timeframe of centuries.
